Women's Workforce Bill Passes New York State Senate!
Despite the real threat that the Women's Workforce Bill (A.9020b/S.6429a) would not come to the floor before the end of session today, it was brought to a vote late Wednesday evening (June 20, 2012) and passed 60 to 0!
SUMMARY OF PROVISIONS:
Women's Workforce Bill (A.9020b/S.6429a)
The labor law is amended by adding a new section, 10-c.
10-c: Adds a workforce training policy for women within the department of labor. Through the policy, the department shall promote program services for women seeking jobs that provide:
(a) current information about compensation for careers that offer higher earning potential, including jobs that traditionally employ predominantly men;
(b) counseling, skills development and training that encourage women to seek jobs with higher earning potential; and
(c) referrals to employers offering such jobs.
Through the policy, the department shall assist workforce training boards, program administrators, program staff and participating employers to improve service and training for women to qualify for higher paying careers.
